UiTM Shuts Its Doors From the Outside World

Is there any university on Earth that only allows one race for its student enrolment ? Does America have universities where only the Blacks or Whites can enter ?...No . However ,UiTM (University Teknologi Mara ) only allows Malays to enter their university . They put race before academic results .

When Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim suggested that UiTM open up 10% its intake to non-bumiputeras and foreign students , it was ridiculed by small Malay organisations and protested by UiTM students .

UiTM students even claim that the Malays-only entry requirement was their right in the federal constitution . I beg to differ...Article 153 only empowers the Yang Di Pertuan Agong to request for the reservation of such proportion of positions as deemed reasonable for the Malays and natives of Sabah and Sarawak in educational institutions funded by the government. Coupled with Article 8 which prohibits discrimination of any kind on the ground of race . This proves that UiTM’s 100% racial policy is clearly unconstitutional .

UiTM's policy shows racial segregation . This discourages real competition . They can't be competitive in the real world . It hinders national unity . Students aren't exposed to interact with other races & cultures to understand one another better . It goes against the trend of globalisation .

It inhibits their ability to socially mingle and co-exist with other races . Consequently, they also can't perform to the same level as the Non-Bumi students . When they graduate, they will have difficulty in adjusting to the multi racial workplace .

This is a globalised world . You can't keep the students in a racial closet . If you do so, you are continually letting them live a false, protected existence, misleading them about the true world out there .

You might argue with me saying that vernacular schools hinder racial unity . Vernacular schools are separate schools for Chinese & Indians students . However , these schools do not reject the entry of other races . There are Indians & Malays in Chinese Schools & vice versa . The only difference is that Chinese & Indian schools teach their own mother tongue & culture .

In the end , I feel that it's the Malay community that loses out . It only retards their progress & limits the students from being exposed to real competition . They end up like the 'katak bawah tempurung' ( frog underneath a coconut shell ) . The ironic thing is that 'mara' means 'to move forward' in Malay...The way I see it , the university follows a backward policy .
