Maths and Science Subjects Should Remain to be Taught in English

In the 1940's until the early 70's , everything was taught in English due to the British invasion of Malaysia..later on in the late 70's , the education system was totally changed and all subjects were taught in Malay . In the late 90's and early 2000's , the rise of unemployment rates became a big issue . Everybody wondered why why why ?? It wasn't because job seekers were stupid or anything like that...it was because they were not fluent in English ...Employers want and need employees who can speak English to compete on a global scale .

When the education system was changed to be taught in Malay , it was to make things "easier" for us and to protect our national language ...but as globalisation happened , English became an international language for business...and whatever career field we're in , it's all business..it's just a matter of what kind of business we're dealing with . If the government's fear of learning in English is losing our national language , I say fear not . Just because you learn these subjects in English , doesn't mean you'll lose your fluency in Malay . It's not like the subject Bahasa Malaysia is being abolished or anything..it's just the maths and science subjects that need to be taught in English.

Lets face the facts of life here , out of 6 billion people in this world , roughly 30 million people speak Malay...and a huge majority of that 6 billion speak English..with simple logic , how much of a competitive edge do you think we can have with the world ?...not much at all right.

If Malaysia wants to be competing with the world in every aspect of business , we have to know English..if not we'll clear be left behind and end up as losers ...that's how it will look like in the long run ...since we've already started learning in English , lets not stop now..lets think of the future...and continue..as in the end..this will really show..Malaysia Boleh!!!!

Our Education System Must Change!!

Ever noticed how some of our parents and elders seem to know so much about the world..how some old politicians ( except Bush and a few others..hehe ;) ) can speak off hand about almost anything ? ...Well, it simply because our parents and elders learnt more then us in school..simple as that..The generation of our parents got their education by following the British education system which is well known to be one of the best education systems in the world . Malaysia was very lucky to be invaded by the British , if not , who knows what system of education we would be using .

However, with the current education system,we have been turned into robots to memorise facts and vomit them out on paper . When the exam is over..all that was learnt is forgotten . That is simply because the morality of teacher's have changed..I shall write a separate article on that soon . In today's subjects such as history and geography , almost all of the things we learn revolves around Malaysia . In fact, what we learn in those subjects are mostly a repetition of what we learnt in our previous years..silly isn't it..It is sad for me that our parents got to learn so much about the world and we only know about this small part of the world :( ...maybe thats the government's way to increase our patriotic spirit??

As for the standard of exams..did you know that our PMR English paper is of the same standard as the Singapore English syllabus for primary level 3?..low isn't it..Even the text books today have shrinked so many times from the text books our parents used..it's good and bad in certain ways..but overall,i think its bad..because in the long run,the quantity of what we learn doesn't really matter..its the quality of knowledge that counts..

Psss....(to the Ministry of Education of Malaysia)...we are not lab rats or guinea pigs for you to be experimenting with our education..you're playing with our future..just go back to the successfully proven British education system..end of story .
